White House to Bypass Commerce on Census

Thu, 02/05/2009 - 16:21

The director of the Census Bureau will report directly to the White House and not the secretary of Commerce, according to a senior White House official.

The decision came after black and Hispanic leaders raised questions about Commerce Secretary nominee Judd Gregg ’s commitment to funding the census.

Gregg, New Hampshire’s senior senator, voted in committee and on the floor for a 1995 Republican budget that envisioned the elimination of the Commerce Department. Of even more concern to black and Hispanic leaders, Gregg battled President Clinton over a request for “emergency” funding for the 2000 census

Do they think that we are all stupid?

Thu, 02/05/2009 - 14:58

For the Democrats to put forth a piece of garbage such as they have and call it a "stimulus package"...for Obama to try to tell us that if we don't buy all of this pork...that we may never recover and for Pelosi to state that 500 million people will lose their jobs.....do they honestly think that we are stupid...or are they as stupid as they look with this crap?

When is News, Really News?

Thu, 02/05/2009 - 14:57

I am becoming increasingly wary about some news agencies talking about subjects that aren't even considered news.

They will have an article like:
Army suicide rate at an all time high!
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/A/A...TE=DEFAULT

Who is the intended audience for such an article? Soldiers (it won't make a difference to them)? Soldiers' families (so they worry more and can do basically nothing about it)? The Army (so they will try an even more experimental drug?)? To the "people" so they blame the Army?

That last one might make some sense.

I don't know, maybe I'm mistaken, but I always find some crazy stories that get on news, that I wouldn't deem news worthy.

Worst OF ALL EXAMPLES:
----The economy is going bad.
----Unemployment at 50 year high!
----Stocks at 5 year slow!

These are such useless, pointless news. It only makes people worry more, fire more people, cut back on expenses (damaging the economy), and pull their stock...

There is no such thing as "informing someone to pull their stock so they don't lose their money" If they don't lose their money, someone else always will, you're just guaranteeing the loss by warning people.

Perhaps I am mistaken, but it seems ridiculous the way the news media reacts to certain things.

Hundreds of Economics sign letter to Obama.

Thu, 01/29/2009 - 19:36

With all due respect Mr. President, that is not true.

Notwithstanding reports that all economists are now Keynesians and that we all support a big increase in the burden of government, we do not believe that more government spending is a way to improve economic performance. More government spending by Hoover and Roosevelt did not pull the United States economy out of the Great Depression in the 1930s. More government spending did not solve Japan's "lost decade" in the 1990s. As such, it is a triumph of hope over experience to believe that more government spending will help the U.S. today. To improve the economy, policy makers should focus on reforms that remove impediments to work, saving, investment and production. Lower tax rates and a reduction in the burden of government are the best ways of using fiscal policy to boost growth.

Senate GOP leader says party must change

Implicit in McConnell's message was the concern that the Republican Party under Bush strayed from its beliefs, resulting in drubbings in two straight elections.

While McConnell praised Bush as a man of principle, he said: "We can all agree, sad as it is, that he wasn't winning any popularity contests. And history shows that unpopular presidents are usually a drag on everybody else who wears their political label."

McConnell called for the GOP to embrace its conservative principles—and resist diluting its message—to bring people back and attract new rank-and-file. Still, he added: "It's clear our message isn't getting out to nearly as many people as it should ... Too often we've let others define us. And the image they've painted isn't very pretty."

Global Warming & Green Party

Thu, 01/29/2009 - 17:10

The liberals have found an ingenious way to capture a large voting bloc: Environmentalists--without doing much. Thanks to efforts by Al Gore and other Democrats.

They promote global warming as a real problem. A fear. Much like Liberals accuse George W. Bush of "fear mongering about terrorists" which are a REAL threat--The Liberals are "fear mongering about global warming" which is an unproven and hotly debated threat.

I thought this image was very interesting:

This site describes global warming perfectly. Easy to read and understand and very effective.

We can only agree that there is much doubt in the science of global warming. We should agree that we should always help the environment, but we cannot let Environmentalist fear-mongering drive our policies.

Cargo Cult Science

Thu, 01/29/2009 - 16:12

Cargo Cult Science is studying so many theories and then forming a cult thinking. The problem is, many of these cargo cult sciences are not scrutinized by the scientific method. Hence, they are difficult to prove:

http://www.lhup.edu/~DSIMANEK/cargocul.htm

Much like religion-- the question remains "How do you know it's not real?" for Global Warming as well as Religion. It is a matter of belief--the only difference is, the founding fathers didn't talk about separation of cults and state, but of church and state. Hence, we cannot exactly kick out people who believe in global warming from politics. OH well!

Obama Accuses US of Colonialism

He definitely said it this time. He definitely screwed up, but no one is picking up on this story.

I suppose their defense will be "well it was a slip of the tongue" or "he didn't mean it in that way."

Obama's Approval Now 65%

Wed, 01/28/2009 - 00:26

Obama's approval rating down -3% to 65% according to Gallup.com

Interesting indeed. What was this drop for you think?

Mike Huckabee

Tue, 01/27/2009 - 18:07

This may be slightly off topic, but I was a little surprised that he didn't do as well as say, a Mitt Romney, in the Republican nomination process. Personally, he was my choice and he seems like a very likeable guy with great ideals, morales, and ideas; along with being a personable guy.

Obama's Approval Rating Down 15%!

Sun, 01/25/2009 - 16:17

Obama's Approval Rating dropped 15%. These are my reasons for it:
http://www.crimsonpolitics.com/obamas-ap...rops-15-68

Why do you think it dropped so rapidly and so soon?

Was it his recent actions? Or was his high approval rating of 83% just respect for him winning the election and hype?

Obama Vs Rush Limbaugh

Sat, 01/24/2009 - 17:02

It's funny how Obama goes crazy over right wing commentators like Rush and Sean Hannity.

According to an account in the New York Post, President Barack Obama yesterday told Republican leaders, "You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done." With George W. Bush now off the stage, it may be that Obama and some of his fellow Democrats view Limbaugh, and not John Boehner, Mitch McConnell, or any other elected official, as the true leader of the Republican opposition. This morning I asked Rush for his thoughts on all this, and here is his response:

There are two things going on here. One prong of the Great Unifier's plan is to isolate elected Republicans from their voters and supporters by making the argument about me and not about his plan. He is hoping that these Republicans will also publicly denounce me and thus marginalize me. And who knows? Are ideological and philosophical ties enough to keep the GOP loyal to their voters? Meanwhile, the effort to foist all blame for this mess on the private sector continues unabated when most of the blame for this current debacle can be laid at the feet of the Congress and a couple of former presidents. And there is a strategic reason for this.

Secondly, here is a combo quote from the meeting:

"If we don't get this done we (the Democrats) could lose seats and I could lose re-election. But we can't let people like Rush Limbaugh stall this. That's how things don't get done in this town."

Liberals Listen to Rush Limbaugh?

Sat, 01/24/2009 - 16:59

A liberal blogger says this:
Quote: I gotta say, I might have to tune in to Rush a little more often. He echos some sentiments shared here, and he also gave me some new things to think about.

He seems to be pretty tough on both liberals and conservatives. However, I think, the older I get, the more conservative I become. I found myself agreeing with some of his comments that I normally wouldn’t.

I can understand now why Obama is telling Republicans to turn off Rush, though. And I must say, I hope they don’t.
Here's another liberal blogger talking about Rush:
Quote: Here! Here! I too never listened to Rush Limbaugh until during the elections and did not find him all that outrageous as the liberal media wanted to portray him. I also did not like Fox network before, but they seemed to be the only ones willing to let the people see the other side of issues. Now I don’t watch CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS.

i allowed the left MSM to tell me for YEARS that the right was corrupt and evil… I learned my lesson.

Great article. Obviously, Obama fears Rush for a reason. That explains “do not listen to Rush” comment. I listen to Rush, started to when he was defending Hillary Clinton during the primaries. I have to say…Rush’s thought and opinions on the economy makes a lot of sense to me.

Limbaugh is ACCURATE PERIOD.

Well, I did not despise him, but wasn’t interested on what he has to say either. Then I read a New York Times profile about him and decided to tune in. I’m hooked now, the guy is really fun in the way he presents his views, very different from the always angry liberals.

Generation Kill

Sat, 01/24/2009 - 08:37

Hi,

I just finished watching all the 7 episodes and ended up craving for more. Its quite an interesting display of what goes on over there. With more budget the producers could have done more with the xfx and perhaps added some of the famous battles that took place as a backdrop to the original story, such as the battle for the Baghdad airport and the battle of the Bridge. All in all the characters are quite likable apart from a few exceptions and the movie correctly focuses on a small group of professionally driven young men, intent on carrying out their mission to the best of their abilities. Its the kind of theme that I never fail to like. Interesting fact; the Battle of Kut was fought before in WW1 by British Empire Troops and the Ottoman Army, what happened in 1916 was that the British pursued an Ottoman force that seemed to them to be routing but was in fact leading them to ambush and encirclement. The British pursued this unit through the city of Kut but once they entered the city the Ottoman unit moved into positions that were well prepared in advance and with the help of other units arriving from Baghdad effectively surrounded the British at Kut. There was a small siege which lasted a week or so and the British had to surrender due to exhaustion from lack of water and food. Around 12000 British Infantry surrendered en mass and this was the single biggest defeat of a British force since the American Victory during the War of Independence. The interesting thing is that in the movie the Marine Col. Ferando specifically stated at one point that the Marines were not going to enter Kut but would bypass it and thus hoodwink the Guards Divisions into moving into prepared positions in anticipation of encircling the Marines at Kut. This would then reverse the situation; the Guards units would be the ones forced into encirclement since they would be hanging around an area while the Marines are rushing to their rear and flanks. Of course the technological gap is severe; the Guard units are blind beyond line of sight so they were depending on making visual contact which they never did of course. It was the reverse of what happened in WW1, in any case even if Guard units did encircle the Marines at one point they (Guards) wouldn't have lasted more than half an hour. Its not just technology, its training and motivation and the famed Guards had none of that in 2003, maybe they did in the war of 1980-88 but for sure after Kuwait they were just a shell. I seriously doubt that if they were somehow sent back in time from 2003 with their 1970s technology to the battle of Kursk in WW2 they would have won against the Germans if they were to replace Zhukov's tanks. At their peak (early 1980s) they would have made formidable adversaries against either side during the Korean war. The episodes were very entertaining and somehow uplifting for me, its the kind of stuff to watch at night when I am high on caffeine after evening shift in the control room where I work at. However I think that the serial is definitely worth a sequel and I am looking forward to such. Thanks Brian for Sharing it with Me...Best Regards

Karl Rove's Take on the Bush Presidency

Thu, 01/22/2009 - 16:19
