CEO Pay Cap. Why Not Hollywood Cap?

Brian Kane 09 February 2009

Recently, Barack Obama announced that CEO pay should be capped at $500,000 maximum pay. Of course, as a supportive US citizen I said "Thank you Mr. President!" At least Obama is trying to do something to make sure the money being used for bailouts will not be abused on bloated salaries. However, if only we could do the same for the salaries of hollywood actors and instead use that money to create more jobs for movies.

Although, if Obama is worried about mishandling of taxpayer bailout money by companies, then why isn't he asking for a receipt of every single expenditure and have teams review how well the money is being used? Why not simply say "This money comes with a condition that you cannot use to raise executive salaries with."

What's with the cap? $450,000 is a lot too, so is $400,000, why did he pick $500,000? Even $200,000 would suffice.

If those CEOs have to sacrifice, why doesn't Barack Obama sacrifice his million dollar home? Instead, Obama and his Democratic buddies are celebrating their victory by putting every pork-barrel project they can. Remember, they did complain about McCain having too many houses. Does Obama really need to receive so much money on federal tax payer money? Shouldn't his salary be cut as well? What about those senators who make quite a significant amount of taxpayer money by simply voting for the people they represent? After all, if you've become a senator for the salary, then you probably won't do a good job for the constituents.

Democrats are trying to create the illusion that they are on your side. They are not. Ghandi was on the people's side--he even dressed in traditional clothing. Yet Obama wears very expensive clothes and makes hundreds of thousands of dollars. At least Jimmy Carter tried to cut back on White House expenses--will Obama do the same?

I hope Obama does succeed in this pay cap for greedy CEOs, but I hope he does make sure they are using the bailout money very restrictively.

Uh... Are actors and athletes receiving taxpayer money? The whole point of talk of CEO pay caps is that the government is giving financial institutions a cash infusion, and then some of them are turning around and handing their executives lavish bonuses with that money as per usual.

Yes, but the tax payer money should come with requirements like, you cannot use this money for bonuses on salaries. I don't see how this relates to Obama wanting a cap on salaries.

Brian, you're exactly right. Hollywood and athletes don't count because, well, people like actors and athletes. They entertain them. CEO's don't. They're just greedy!

Oh, also Hollywood is mostly Democrat (I don't know about athletes; they're probably 50-50). And a lot of them are big donors to Democrat politicians. So naturally greedy Democrat socialists wouldn't want to rock the boat with that very powerful niche of the electorate.

Personally, if CEO's take bailout money, then they deserve everything the Obamunists make them do: Face a pay cap, deal with micromanaging know-nothing bureaucrats who will impose endless regulations on their companies. It'll be their fault; that's what you get for making deals with the devil.

But make no mistake: the goal of the Obamunists is to impose pay caps and regulations on all businesses, whether they take the stimulus money or not.

Bottom line: The execs of every institution that socialist Democrats hate will get pay caps. Those who the socialists like - Hollywood actors, musicians, university presidents, Democrat politicians - are safe as kittens.

Welcome to the future, suckers.

Good point Eric.
