John McCain Launches Petition Against Obama Stimulus Package

John McCain Republican

John McCain launched a petition and sent it to the mail box of almost every Republican and John McCain supporter in the country. John McCain takes a final stand for fiscal conservatism and encourages the government to be responsible--to protect the consumers and keep competition balanced.

Many Republicans were disappointed with the loss of 2008, many wanted to blame John McCain and others Sarah Palin. However, the economic problems and fiery momentum of Barack Obama and the unpopularity of Bush really made the 2008 election probably the hardest election a Republican could ever win. The mere fact that McCain scored 42% of the vote was amazing; however in defeat, people always look for someone to blame.

Regardless, John McCain is still trying to show that he is not the stranger and odd senator of 2000 but that he really does stand on principle. This move is now being applauded by all Republicans and even many independents who feel the Democrats are about to release havoc with their Christmas shopping list they falsely call a "stimulus package."

John McCain wrote:

The Senate recently began debate on an economic stimulus package that is intended to get our economy get back on track and help Americans who are suffering through these difficult times. Unfortunately, the proposal on the table is big on the giveaways for the special interests and corporate high rollers, yet short on help for ordinary working Americans.

I cannot and do not support the package on the table from the Democrats and the Obama Administration. Our country does not need just another spending bill, particularly not one that will load future generations with the burden of massive debt. We need a short term stimulus bill that will directly help people, create jobs, and provide a jolt to our economy.

Please join me in saying no to this stimulus package as it currently exists by signing the petition to the right and telling your friends about our efforts.

That's odd of John McCain--almost out of character, but hey people can change I suppose.

I can't believe this, senators doing their job? Good job McCain. Petition signed!

I'm actually glad that Obama got elected president for the following reason. The people will ultimately have to reconnect with the Constitution and its history in order to protect themselves from constitutionally clueless Obama's misguided pen.

Given that the Founders made the Constitution to limit (cripple) the powers of the federal government, the states, not the Oval Office or Congress, have the lion's share of government power to serve the people. This is evidenced by the following constitutional statutes.

Article I, Section 8, Clause 18: To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States (emphasis added), or in any Department or Officer thereof.

10th Amendment: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution (emphasis added), nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

The states having the lion's share of government powers is important because of the following. Having more powers means that the states, not the federal government, have more power to lay taxes. In fact, Chief Justice Marshall established the following case precedent concerning limits on federal government power to lay taxes. Note, in particular, the last sentence of the following excerpt.

"Congress is authorized to lay and collect taxes, &c. to pay the debts, and provide for the common defence and general welfare of the United States. This does not interfere with the power of the States to tax for the support of their own governments; nor is the exercise of that power by the States, an exercise of any portion of the power that is granted to the United States. In imposing taxes for State purposes, they are not doing what Congress is empowered to do. Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States (emphasis added)." --Chief Justice Marshall, GIBBONS V. OGDEN (1824)

The bottom line is that, instead of bowing down to the federal government, the states need to wake up to the fact that the Founders intended for the states to call the shots in the good old USA and repeal the 16th Amendment. This is because the 16th Amendment has made it too easy, in my opinion, for the corrupt, tax-hungry federal government to lay constitutionally unauthorized taxes. (Did you hear that California?) In other words, if the federal government was actually operating within its constitutional restraints as the Founders had intended, the feds wouldn't have the tax dollars to finance a stimulus package in the first place.

Obama is a MARXIST!!! I didn't escape Communism in the 80's to watch the USA go downhill. Honestly, Obama needs his ass checked into a country that doe snot have the benefits of the US to see that he is wrong. He's had it too good in the US and has no idea what "free healthcare for all means" (waiting weeks and months to get a doctor's appointment, because it is free); a "classless society" (regardless of how hard you work or how many diplomas you receive, you're domed to make a certain amount). Hey, why not work to support other people, I mean, don't we all want to just give our money away? Why would we actually need the safety of GISMO, instead, release all of the terrorists who plotted against the USA, some of who actually said that they are happy for what they have done and said they would do it again. Let's let them go to their homes and plan more attacks! Two words: OBAMA - MARXIST. Seriously.

I wish McCain would just go away.

That's kind of sad and mean to say, don't worry he is 72 years old... :(

Isn't the POTUS the last to see the bill after the congress' scubbing? OK, let's all blame the teacher for the student's lousy "how did I spend my last summer" essay.

The Republicans feigned concerned over runaway spending in the Obama stimulus package is sadly humorous to watch.

Compare Obama’s 900 billion dollar injection of money into the American economy to the Republicans own Pet project: Iraq.

Unlike Obama’s stimulus package, Americans will see little of the 700 billion dollars Republicans borrowed to depose Sadaam Hussein. Money that wasn’t sucked up by corruption, went to buy military hardware that got blown up by insurgents. And what military hardware survived will never be returned to the states. Instead it will be abandoned in the desert or donated to the Iraqi Army. Of course,, Iraqis will benefit from the US billions spent on THEIR schools, bridges and roads, water treatment plants and training and equipping THEIR army and police force. And of course who knows how many millions of dollars were paid to insurgents not to fire on US soldiers or handed out as “grant money” to Iraqi businessmen

What we do know is that few Americans taxpayers will ever enjoy any of the 700 billion dollars the Republicans spent in Iraq.

Of course, some American companies like General Dynamics, Blackwater and Halliburton have reaped billions and some of that money may find it’s way back to American soil. But overall, very few Americans were on the receiving end.

Instead American taxpayer will be saddled with billions more in lifetime medical costs for up to 30,000 serious maimed US servicemen for the next 50 to 60 years.

Why the Republicans in Congress who were so eager to shovel money down the Iraq hole (long after American taxpayer had tired of the war) is beyond me. And why these same Republicans decide that now is the time to tighten the fiscal belt…when Americans are losing their jobs and businesses are going bankrupt…is beyond me.

It’s almost as if Republican congressment are representing Al Basarah , Kirkuk and Baghdad…not Virginia, Georgia and Mississippi

You do know that a majority of Democrats DID vote for the Iraq War? 29 Senators vs 21 Democratic Senators who did not vote for Iraq. So don't talk about Republicans promoting "wasting money" because the Democrats also voted heavily in favor of it. Almost every in Congress felt Saddam was a threat--if they didn't, why did they vote for it? If they made a mistake, why do you let these Democrats stay in office, they are just as guilty aren't they?

Sure Americans, may not see direct benefits of Iraq--but then again it might. Iraq is a rich oil nation, their economy may help fund America through investment in the future and cheapen oil costs maybe. In hindsight, its easy to blame people especially when you're just as guilty.

Most Dems in the Congress voted against the war in Iraq. The majority of Dem senators for it, though they expressed grave reservations. The fact that the vote was rushed in right before the mid-term election is one of the most vile things I've seen in my life. Truth is, the Dems were put between (Iraq)a rock and a hard place: if they voted no, their Republican opponents would go out on the campaign trail and say they were weak on defense and not helping the president to keep the country safe about a year after 9/11. If they voted for it, then people like you would say what you just did. And it would piss off some of their constituents and they'd lose elections. The Rove/Republican strategy worked as Dems got their clock cleaned in that election. But we all know which party was almost unanimous in support of invading Iraq, don't we.

What's more important? Getting re-elected or doing what's right for the country? Perhaps there was merit in those intelligence reports, since those senators overly voted for it--yes including the Democrats.

As usual, another ignorant republican. An internet petition is totally worthless. Anyone who signs one thinking they are making a statement ought to have his/her head examined. Your name typed on a petition means nothing. Yep, McCain really IS totally ignorant.

Are you kidding me? Are YOU that stupid and ignorant that you would put our debt all the way through three more generations? And yes, petitions help, they let Obama know that many people DO NOT support his Stimulus package. Our next four years with him are doomed :(. I feel sad to be an American under his administration. I am only looking forward to 2012 when people realize how horrible of a president he is and how much of our money he is wasting. What's worse is that he backs Pelosi, who is the worst Politician I've seen by far. The woman uses private jets for her flights that we pay for. She hates Republicans and she makes it very clear. Americans just got robbed by the Democratic Administration!

Hey, John. Read my lips. YOU LOST, Get over it, and go the hell away with your idiot running mate and Joe the Jerk. You are a joke

To all of you liberal democrats hoping to get a piece of the pie, maybe you should get your head examined. You are going to get NOTHING. I think an online petition is a good thing. At least people can feel like they are doing something. And by the way, if you feel like John McCain is an idiot, you should look at the new president, the man who can't make a whole sentence without an uh or um. He's too busy signing everything that is put in front of him to worry about what he is actually signing. Do some research before you start posting because you all look like idiots.

I would agree that the "special interest" project should be removed from the bill, but what McCain really wants to do is remove anything that isn't a "short term" solution. Unfortunately, short sighted solutions are what brought this mess upon us.

Rather than just throwing every long term idea out the window, why not identify those that really are special interest projects and those that would actually bring some benefit to the country?

of course who knows how many millions of dollars were paid to insurgents not to fire on US soldiers or handed out as “grant money” to Iraqi businessmencobro
